TODAY'S WORKOUT (focus = high intensity fat burning) I actually just finished this workout this morning. And it's pretty similar to the Functional Strength 5 workout from my Fitter U Fitness program. Warm-up: 5 minutes light cardio followed by dynamic stretching. Workout (30 seconds of work; 30 seconds rest. Complete 3 sets, then move onto next superset. Choose a weight that will CHALLENGE you for 30 seconds): Superset #1: 1a. Lateral lunges with shoulder press 1b. Stability ball crunches Superset #2: 2a. Deadlifts (with barbell or dumbbells) 2b. Leaning elevated lunges with curl and press Superset #3: 3a. Single leg deadlifts (1-RDL) 3b. 1-arm stability ball chest press Total Workout Time = 25 minutes WEDNESDAY'S WORKOUT (focus = strength) Warm-up: 5 minutes light cardio followed by dynamic stretching. Workout (allow 1 minute between exercises and 3-4 minutes between sets. You shouldn't be out of breath doing this workout. Focus on lifting heavy with excellent form). 1a. Deadlifts - 5 sets x 5 reps 1b. Dumbbell chest press - 5 sets x 5 reps Total Workout Time = 50 minutes FRIDAY'S WORKOUT (focus = intervals followed by yoga/prolonged stretching/foam rolling) These intervals can be done on any cardio machine or while running outdoors. Warm-up: 5 minutes progressively getting faster Workout: 1 minute @ 90% max speed : 1 minute @ 65% max speed (light jog) x 10 = 20 minutes Yoga/stretching/foam rolling: *Before doing any stretching it's important to cool your body down by continuing to walk for at least 5 minutes after your intervals. Allow your body to come back down to a more relaxed level, then move into your stretches. You can do ANY stretches you like and I would focus on really loosening up your hip flexors, hamstrings, and calves. Hold each stretch for a minimum of 1 minute and repeat 2-3 times. If you have access to a foam roller, you may also want to roll out your thighs, IT bands, hamstrings, and calves to flush out some of the built-up toxins from your workouts. Total Workout/Recovery Time = 40 minutes ************************* If you don't know what some of these exercises are or how to do them, then I apologize (I can't fit all the pictures into this email) but you can always substitute something for another "similar" exercise you're more familiar with. And if your schedule doesn't allow you to follow this schedule then that's cool. Just find a time that works best for you. Getting them done is what matters.
