Great day, great event, top work Ben! Thanks to Joni and Shawn for reffing/pep talking, Rob and Jonny for their support/videoing, and all my training partners for gutsy performances. JC was on fire today and just missed out on the victory and Andy was unlucky finishing in 7th place. Well done to Cleggy too, great effort on those stones at the end mate.

21/2/09 at Olympic Sports Gym, Ashton. Deadlift warm ups 70kg x 3 100kg x 2 120kg x 1 140kg x 1 180kg x 1 attempts 200kg x 1 230kg x 1 250kg x 1 260kg x 1 270kg x 1 9th place Log press warm ups 53kg x 3 73kg x 2 97.5kg x 1 attempts 100kg x 1 105kg x 1 115kg x f 12th place Farmers walk 130kg x 40m Joint 1st place Super yoke 300kg x 20m 13.94 secs 5th place Atlas stones 54" platform 140kg x 5 reps Joint 7th place Overall - 7th place An up and down day for me. Started off with more than I could have hoped for on the deadlift. Was the worst hitch ever, but wasn't expecting 270 so got off to a good start. I was expecting to do badly in this event, and even though I pulled something decent for, still placed low. Then came the disaster of the day for me, the log. I ended up failing 115kg so finished on 105kg. This I was not happy about as I have routinely been doing 120kg in training (PB is 125kg). Thought I would play it safe and get 115kg in the bag before doing the 120 but it backfired. Lost big points here. A shame really as I have been working hard at my pressing recently. Log lets me down in competition AGAIN! Angry Was pleased to get an event win on farmers, again, even though I have done more in training. They felt heavy from the start - probably due to the deadlifts first. Still, can't complain. Yoke - after seeing people on the farmers I thought as long as I get a solid run in with the yoke and don't fuck it up (drop it) I will place highly. Whilst this is true to an extent, in hindsight, I feel I could have gone faster and therefore placed higher. Just wanted to make sure I didn't drop it. A good 2-3 seconds slower than I usually do in training, but that is training and this is competition - where it counts. Stones - at this point my back didn't feel great at all. It felt painful leaning back with the stone at the top of the extension, causing me to fail a couple of reps that I should have got. Again a couple short of what I have done in training but wouldn't have affected anything at this point anyway, so wasn't that important. All in all an OK day for me. Could have been worse, but could have been better too. Thanks to everyone for all their support/hard work throughout the day, already looking forward to SSM 2010!
